Asteroid Occultation Video Techniques

On March 13, 2009, Gene Lucas gave a presentation about some of his experiences recording the occultation of an asteroid. The asteroid is named (9) Metis. The occultation occurred on Sept. 11 and 12, 2008, at 06:21 UT. The asteroid occulted a 6th magnitude star in Aries—visible in binoculars. The track crossed the Mojave desert in California. Details are available on the International Occultation Timing Association (IOTA) web pages, and the Sept. 2008 issue of Sky & Telescope magazine.
